Selja or JobStep: which one suits you?
Selja and JobStep do much of the same thing: both tailor your CV and cover letter to a job ad, offer ATS-friendly templates and are available in Norwegian. The main differences are price, what you get for free and how they handle requirements in the ad that are not in your CV. JobStep gives you more for free if you want to build a CV from scratch. Selja Pro is cheaper than JobStep both monthly and quarterly, has a yearly plan, asks you before it uses words you are missing, and includes interview practice and a LinkedIn check in Premium. Selja is the service behind this page, so we stick to what JobStep says about itself. Prices checked in October 2026.

What Selja and JobStep have in common
Both are online services in Norwegian, built to make it faster to send a good, tailored application. You can use the CV you already have: Selja uses it as the starting point, and JobStep lets you upload and scan it. Both let you paste in the job ad, as text or a link, and both offer templates designed to be ATS-friendly.
Both also give your CV a score, let you download a PDF and let you cancel whenever you like. So the choice is mostly about price, what is free and how the tool works with your content.

If you need interview practice or a LinkedIn check, Selja Premium costs more than JobStep, but then you get features that are not listed in JobStep's plans. See all the details on the pricing page.
The free versions
JobStep's free plan includes a CV score, the option to build a CV, all templates and an application overview. Tailoring to jobs, cover letters and unlimited downloads require a paid plan. If you want to build a tidy basic CV without paying, JobStep gives you more.
Without an account, Selja gives you a CV score that assesses your whole CV, and an ATS score that checks your CV against a specific job and shows which keywords are missing. A salary check based on figures from Statistics Norway, an hourly wage calculator, a career quiz, common interview questions by profession and questions to ask the employer are also free. Try CV score or ATS score first to see where you stand.
Tailoring to the job ad and ATS
In Selja you paste in the job ad, as a link or text, and get a professional CV and cover letter tailored to the role in under a minute, based on the CV you already have. If the ad is in English, your CV and cover letter will be in English. Selja has a dedicated ATS template built so that applicant tracking systems read the document correctly, as well as several templates and colours.
JobStep states that all its CV templates are ATS-optimised, with a clean structure, standard headings and machine readable text. The cover letter is created when you paste in the ad or link, and the CV can be tailored to jobs on a paid plan. JobStep also says it adapts the CV structure to national standards, for example in Germany, the US and Switzerland. That can be useful if you are applying for jobs outside Norway.
When the ad asks for something you do not have
This is the clearest difference in how the services describe themselves. Selja never adds experience or skills you do not have. If the ad asks for something that is not in your CV, Selja asks you about it and only uses what you confirm. If you have used Excel at work but never mentioned it in your CV, you can say yes and the word is included. If you have not used it, it stays out.
JobStep says you stay in control and can edit everything before you export. Either way, read through your CV and cover letter before you send them, because anything in them can come up in the interview. Our guide on how to read a job ad helps you see what the employer is really asking for.
Job search, interviews and other tools
JobStep sends weekly job suggestions and gives you an overview where you keep track of CVs, cover letters and applications.
Selja shows vacancies from arbeidsplassen.no in the app. Pro includes Job match, which scores how well you fit the role, and a tool for comparing job offers. Premium includes interview practice for the role you are applying for, by voice or text with feedback on every answer, and a LinkedIn check. If you have an interview coming up, you can also read our guide on preparing for a job interview.
Guarantee and cancellation
Both let you cancel whenever you like. Selja has a 30 day money back guarantee, and terms apply. JobStep offers a 100 percent money back guarantee within 7 days of the first purchase, as long as you have not used paid features. According to JobStep's refund terms, downloading a CV or tailored documents counts as use, among other things. Read the terms for both before you buy.
